Genesee County Jail Overview
Genesee County Jail is operated by the Genesee County Sheriff's Office Jail Bureau at 3839 West Main Street Road in Batavia. The Jail Bureau is the county corrections arm responsible for care, custody, treatment, supervision, discipline, and correctional programming for people committed to the sheriff. It is a county jail, not a New York State DOCCS prison, federal Bureau of Prisons facility, or ICE detention center.
The official county venue page says the new jail opened in 2024 next to Genesee County Building #2. County materials describe updated infrastructure, enhanced security measures, rehabilitation and reentry program space, parking, disabled access, and Genesee Justice offices for alternatives to incarceration, pretrial services, and victim support.

That county source is useful for confirming that the page is about the 2024 county jail building, not the separate ICE facility elsewhere in Batavia.

How to Look Up an Inmate at Genesee County Jail
Genesee County does not publish a standard official jail roster on the county site as of this research pass. Use official fallback channels: call the jail, search New York VINE if the person is covered, and request records through Sheriff Records or FOIL when a releasable booking, arrest, or custody record is needed. Do not use DOCCS, BOP, or ICE as a substitute for a current county-jail custody check unless the person has transferred into one of those separate systems.
- Call Genesee County Jail at (585) 343-0838 with the person's full legal name, date of birth if known, arrest date, and arresting agency if known.
- Use New York VINE/VINELink or 1-888-846-3469 for custody status and notification registration when the person is covered by VINE.
- For older or non-public details, contact Sheriff Records at (585) 345-3000 ext. 3560 or use the Sheriff's FOIL form with specific dates, names, and record descriptions.
- If the person was sentenced to state prison, search New York DOCCS Incarcerated Lookup. If the person moved to immigration detention, use ICE ODLS and the Batavia SPC phone instead.

A person arrested by the Genesee County Sheriff's Office, Batavia Police Department, LeRoy Police Department, Corfu Police Department, New York State Police, New York State Park Police, or another local agency may be brought to the jail when committed to sheriff custody. Jail staff create or update custody records, identify the person, handle property, conduct security and safety steps, and place the person under Jail Bureau supervision.

For court activity after arrest, use New York WebCriminal, the relevant local court, or the District Attorney and court clerk channels documented for Genesee County. For bail, the county bail page says cash bail may be accepted 24/7 at the jail, and the jail phone should be used if a booking number is unknown for online payment.
About Genesee County Jail
The 2024 jail project is the major recent facility development in Genesee County corrections. County financial statements say the new jail was completed under State Commission of Correction guidelines, and the county issued $70 million in bonds in 2022 to finance the project. The official jail and venue pages connect the building to rehabilitation, reentry programming, and Genesee Justice services.
Weekend Work Detail is the clearest county-published program connected to the jail. It is for non-violent, low-risk people sentenced by courts to work in lieu of incarceration. Participants report Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and correction officers supervise work assignments for municipalities and affiliates.
